Capturing your video is only a small part of the story-telling process. How you organize and put your shots together is what will make a difference in what kind of story it tells. Below are tips and techniques to help you along in this process.

In order to create a great video and tell a good story, you need to think about how you arrange your video clips. Click on the button below for techniques to use while editing.
how to import video onto your computer
Before you import video into the editing software, you want to put the clips onto your computer and rename them:
- Using the USB connector cable, connect the camera with your computer.
- Make sure the camera is on.
- Open the viewer and press the "play" button. Your view screen will ask you what you want to do - press "Computer/Device"
- On your computer, go to the START icon at the bottom left, and open "Computer". There you will find your device.
- Double click on the CANON camera
- Double click on AVCHD
- Double click on STREAM and highlight the clips you want.
- Right click on them and COPY them.
- Then PASTE them into a folder on your desktop (Be sure to create one for each project)
- Once they are copied into the new folder, rename the clips.
How to import video into avid
- Once you are in AVID, click IMPORT at the top of the page
- Choose Computer
- Open the + sign next to DESKTOP
- Select the correct project folder and "check all" clips that you want to import (Once the import is complete, they will be in the folder "Latest Collections" until you import another piece of video. )
- To keep them in a central location, make sure all of those clips are highlighted (press Ctrl A) and then right click, go to "Add to Collection" then "Create New Collection" and name that collection.
