Writing a Script
What is a script?A script is your story on paper from start to finish. A script is necessary to tell any story, whether you are putting together a natural sound package, feature story or commercial.
Before you can write a script, you need to have logged your video and interviews. This means that you have viewed every clip you captured, and wrote down good shots you'll want to use, good natural sound moments and good sound bites. |
Getting started...Every story should start with an attention-getter.
Will you start with a quote, natural sound? Ask yourself, "What is my best piece of video? What will make people take notice?" Write that first shot down on a piece of paper and you've begun writing your script! |
Completing a scriptOnce you have your start, think about the end.
As you shoot or log, you should look out for a memorable way to end your story. -- Is there a great sound bite to wrap it up or a beautiful shot or natural sound pop that puts the finishing touches on it? Decide on the closing shot, then fill in the gap from start to finish with details of your story. Make sure you "write to your video" (match video with what you or an interviewee is saying) |
